updates!

New recipes up!

Tunes: Arcade Fire is amazing. I love the new album, but this is something else. Found it earlier today. It is so cool. Technology has gotten so crazy. http.thewildernessdowntown.com
doodles, recipes, memories, and thoughts have all been updated. Check out my newest print that is still in progress!

Memories: Tomorrow will mark one year since we got the news of Kevin's father's untimely death. I remember last year on a Tuesday night getting a call that changed so much in our lives. Our lives have changed so much for the better. Our family is stronger and has become closer because of a tragedy. Kevin wants to make a counter memory tomorrow, so that September 1st can be remembered differently, as a good day. He is the most positive person I have ever met. We will also remember Jim and all that he did for his family.

grape harvest

Saturday we drove out to Logan County where we got married at Tres Suenos Vineyard and Winery. We harvested two tons of cabernet grapes! We got a free lunch, got to stomp some riesling grapes, saw how the wine was made, and got a free bottle of wine too. It was so much fun, and we are planning on going back again next year.

a staycation of a lifetime

So even though I was sick for the first two days of my break, it ended up being great. It was relaxing but full. Wednesday night we drove to Norman to see Kevin's friend's band play. We saw a beautiful Oklahoma sunset as well Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips.
Then Thursday morning we saw Hubble 3D. It was incredible. I wish more movies like that would come out in theaters instead of stupid movies. It made me remember how very small we are in this vast universe.
Then we had some lunch at one of our favorite places and went out to Martin Nature Park. We used to go there a lot. It is a nature preservation center in the middle of OKC. You can be in the middle of it and feel like you are in the middle of nowhere (except for the faint sound of cars on the highway). It was some much needed nature time. We saw some lovely birds and a huge squirrel.

We also babysat little Emma last night. She tries to repeat everything we say which could be a bad thing, but we had fun with it. She is getting so big. We took her and the dogs outside and played for a long time.
It wasn't easy going back to work today, but I have tomorrow off and some great things planned. Most pages have been updated in the last couple days. I'll update tomorrow with pics of our grape harvest and stomp!

PS:Kevin's brother found this. Oh my goodness I love it. Just watch it. It is the most amazing light show ever!!!THE GLITCH MOB : BEYOND MONDAY from BEMO | Brandon Hirzel on Vimeo.

staycation

Today begins my 4 day staycation, my break after a month of working full time and getting up so early. I realize that most people work 40 hour weeks and go in early in the morning. But I refuse to be like the rest of the world. I cannot and will not do that for the rest of my life. So after these precious 4 days I'm going back to a steady 20-25 hours per week and nothing before 8 am. I hope that this will push me to create more art and submit to more shows since I will have more time on my hands. I'm also thinking about taking a semester long internship starting next month. This will be great for my resume and really good experience. So wish me luck!

I was hoping that I could get some rest and catch up on printing over this break, BUT I'm sick! I've been feeling stuffy and my allergies have been bothering me for over a week now. So this morning I broke down and went to the doctor finally. I have a bad sinus infection and a low grade ear infection in my left ear. I'm on antibiotics (which I hate taking). But hopefully tomorrow I will start feeling better and be able to do some printing and get outside in the dwindling days of the summer heat.

Most schools in the city started today. Whenever school starts it reminds me that fall is close and summer is almost over. So I must savor the heat that I love so much. It feels really weird and almost bittersweet to not be heading back to school. I'm glad I'm done(for now), but at the same time I miss everyone and I miss having a huge studio and equipment to work with in the art building. I hope someday I can have my own studio, the sooner the better. But in the meantime my little apartment will do.

I've also been getting into a few little hobby crafts. I have a lot of scraps of fabric, so I'm making fabric flowers for pins, hair, etc. An arts and crafts night with Kevin's family inspired me to get into something like that. We made Emma Kate some little hair bows. I got really into it. She looked so cute!

Well my head feels like it's about to explode, so I probably should stop looking at the computer screen. I will be on tomorrow to post some recipes and other things (crossing fingers that I feel better). Toodles!

my hair is gone!

Before and after pics of my hair. I cut 8 1/2 inches off! My head feels lighter.

back to normal (almost)

We haven't had internet the past few days. I don't really know why, but anyway that's why I haven't been able to update the doodles. They are now updated along with recipes, memories and thoughts. Comments can go on this post...pleeeease!

We are having some strange early fall time weather. It is nice to get a break from the intense 100+ heat, but I'm sure not ready to see summer go just yet. I'm working all weekend (again), but after Sunday I have 4 days off! Those 4 days are much needed. I'm going to catch up on a lot of things, but most importantly I'm going outside. I miss nature. My body is turning against me. I've had digestive and sinus issues for about a week now. I know it's from getting up at 5:30 and working so much. My schedule has been so thrown out of wack.

Well since it is my Saturday I'm going to take a walk in this beautiful weather. I'll update doodles again tomorrow. See ya!

sunday funday (aka thursday)

Today is my Sunday, so I went to the pool for 2 hours! It was great. It got up to 100 today, so I got some good sun. I finished my book I've been reading, worked on my screen print, baked some delicious muffins, and now we're making dinner to take to Kev's mom. It has been a good day, and I'm definitely not ready to go back to work tomorrow. I updated the doodles and recipes. Any comments can go on this post. Gotta go grill some veggies now. I'll be on to post doodles pics soon.

tunes on now: Sound Tribe Sector 9. We've seen them many times, but we're going to see them at RedRocks in September and it will be amazing. I can't wait.

its my caturday night

As I have mentioned before Wednesday is my Saturday and Thursday is my Sunday. I've been working so much I haven't had time for much else, but there's always time for a cute cheezburger!

I'll be on later tomorrow to make a real post and update the pages. Now I'm gonna go watch a movie with my love and go to bed early. I know I know, not a typical Saturday night. But I'm flippin tired. I woke up when my alarm normally would have gone off this morning (5:30 am). So I need some zzzzs...goodnight!

need my hairs cut

I haven't cut my hair in over a year now. I wanted to grow it out, but it is starting to get annoying. So I think next paycheck, I'm cutting it all off. I'm starting with a kinda short cut like what I've had before (on the left). But about a month after that if I don't chicken out I want to go real short (the right). Thoughts?

Anyway I'm making fish tacos tonight. I'm updating the recipes page. I will update doodles as soon as I have time to go get some supplies. Also, the hubby now has his own blog. Yay! So he probably won't be adding to the hubby page anymore. But go follow him if you like sports and plants and things of that sort.

In other news...

  • it rained last night and a cold front came through. It has been over 100 for over a week now, which I am totally okay with. But when I went outside on the porch this morning there was a cool fallish breeze. The smell of the rain and the cool air brought back memories of football and fall time things. I'm ready for football and pumpkins and such, but I don't know if I'm ready to see summer go.

sleep deprived

With my new work schedule I go in almost everyday at 7 am. This has caused me to wake up on my days off very early. Yesterday I woke up at 5:30, made myself go back to sleep with my eye mask on, and slept until 8. Today I woke up at 6:30 and could never really get back to sleep all the way. It's so frustrating because I feel so tired, but I can't sleep as much as I need to. I was ready for bed at 9:30 last night. I don't know how people have jobs where they have to go in that early all the time. I can't do it much longer or I'm going to go crazy.

Anyway, I have had time to update recipes. I hit a few road blocks printing, but the doodles will be updated in the next few days too. I also just realized that you can't comment on the pages. So if you have any feedback for me on recipes or doodles, you can comment on my posts or send me a message.

caturday

So Wednesday and Thursday have become my weekend with this new work schedule. Since today is my Saturday I'm going grocery shopping, running errands and just catching up. Also everyday is appropriate to be a caturday, so here it is.
A little tike in a pocket.
I got these tiger melons from the farmer's market yesterday. They're about the size of a softball. It kind of tastes like a mixture of a cantaloupe and a honeydew melon, but not as sweet. Sure are pretty.

twenty4

I had a great birthday yesterday. I woke up to roses: 6 yellows (one for every year we've been together) and 1 red (for the year to come). Very creative. :) I also got a massage which was awesome, but it made me feel tired the rest of the day. I just felt kind of out of it. I got a coupon for another one, so I think I'll definitely use that one for the end of long day.

After my massage I came home and showered. Then Kevin came to pick me up and we went to his mom's house for a family crab boil. I LOVE crab legs! It was so good. My mom and stepdad came too. I got some cute presents. My favorite would have to be this really great cookbook from the mother-in-law. It's filled with gift ideas for holidays. I will definitely be putting some of those recipes and ideas up in the next few months.

It was also the first day this summer that it was over 100 degrees outside. I thought it was fitting for someone like me who loves the heat. My little niece Emma loved it too, so we took her outside to swim in the little kiddie pool.

It was a great birthday, one of the best. This is the strawberry cake. Yummy! I was going to bring the peach pie I made the other night, but it was just not that pretty. The crust was all cracky looking. I used up all the candles in the box this year. I guess next year I will have to switch to the number candles.
